SAI Training

Phase 2, Day 1

October 19, 2009

Coralville Evaluations

What did you like most about today?
  • The exercises using the Big 6 and trying to tie it to the ICC
  • Practical ideas and the Workshop Handbook
  • You provided a process that all teachers no matter what level they teach or what subject they teach they can utilize. It is a process to get our students to think critically and become the problem solvers we want them to be. It isn't a prescription but a proven method for teachers to use to plan and implement a project-based learning experience.
  • Front loading the concept of Big6 so that the materials can be comprehended throughout the session
  • I liked the lesson examples best.
  • interaction
  • The overall focus on instruction blends nicely if the characteristics of effective instruction.
  • I liked that it tied into the Iowa Core. I liked that it had some things we could use right away back in our districts.
  • good organizational framework
  • Focus on process
  • Mike's expertise was obvious. The Big 6 had some practical applications.
  • Fast-paced, interesting and engaging. Good food too!
  • The big6 discussion
  • The facilitator was very knowledgeable about the Big 6. It knew how to present it and could read his audience.

What suggestions do you have for improving what we did today?
  • Explore using the Big 6 with the 5 characteristics of effective instruction
  • No suggestions- as the day worked pretty well for me.
  • I am always looking for real life lessons. ie. teacher videos.
  • More opportunity to connect the 21st century skills to the content of the day. sharing with the wider group would have given me multiple perspectives.
  • Again, overall good. I was a little more prepared to continue the tech tools discussions, but this was very good.
  • none
  • none
  • Longer session
  • It hit on information literacy, but I thought we would talk more about technology use within the classroom.
  • More concrete examples of ICC connectivity w/ Big 6 concepts.
  • Stay away from Iowa Core discussions
  • This was not necessarily what I expected it to be. I am not sure how this will help us implement the Iowa CORE. I think the ideas were good but let down.

What questions or concerns do you have as you leave today?
  • If we will be using this as an organizing tool for the ICC, our teacher-librarian, who use the Big 6 to varying degrees already, will be agroup we need to get on board.
  • I am anxious to hear form others who I know are attending these sessions as to the ideas they take away from the sessions and how they will use them in the work that they do.
  • How to roll it out in a seamless way.
  • My concern is to figure out a way to make it work in our setting.
  • None at this time.
  • none at this time
  • how does this framework help implement core curriculum?
  • Adding something new to district (teacher, principal, district administrator) plate....
  • Time to implement some of the big6 concepts.
  • What did we really accomplish in the end. Again I am not sure how we implement this.

Anything else you want to share with us?
  • The PowerPoint, handouts, and group collaboration really helped me with making sense of the information.
  • Thanks for sharing your expertise.
  • Not at this time.
  • Not at this time.
  • See you next session
